Final results of the SFB: 2003

Once again the blog world has come together and winnowed a large number of competitors down to one, the Sexiest Female Blogger. This year’s poll was quite a bit less tumultuous than last year’s. There was no major cheating, when a year ago I could see entire computer labs from northeastern universities vote, one computer after the other. Then I could watch every IP from some Internet proxy vote for a different blogger. I’m guessing that if the vote had been closer (last year it came down to the wire) the cheating would have been rampant.

I also didn’t see much hatred for running such a sexist contest. That makes me happy, people are finally realizing that this is just a silly contest, and isn’t a comment on male/female relationships, sexism in our culture, or anything else important.

Well, without further ado, here are the top ten Sexiest Female Bloggers:

10. Moxie is an attractive blogger, with lots of pictures all over her site and a fairly large readership, so I expected her to do better than 40 votes. But she didn’t link to the poll, so let that be a lesson to you, campaign, ladies!

8. We’ve got a tie for eighth between Rebecca, one of my favorites, and J-Mo at 41 votes. J-Mo makes a strong showing for a new contestant, especially for one that doesn’t run in my blog circles, but I’m disappointed with Rebecca’s place. She did a lot better last year, but that’s probably because she’d just posted a rather erotic thing about mashed potatoes and she was a front-runner early on.

7. Rachel, lusted after by right-wing gun lovers everywhere, hits number seven with 44 votes.

6. In sixth place, with 45 votes, we have Statia, who, in my opinion, has the sexiest name in the contest.

5. Gennie tried to make a run at the lead towards the end. She didn’t make it all the way to the top, but fifth is very respectable, and each contestant from here on out wins a tiara. Enjoy!

4. Fourth place goes to another blogger I’d not heard of, Nicole. I’m actually surprised she didn’t do better that 67 votes, according to my referral logs she sent me a lot of traffic.

3. Now we really start to break away from the pack. With 126 votes Annika, at one time the vote leader, comes in third. Based on the pics on her blog, Annika’s a really cute girl, and I expect her to do even better next year.

2. In second place we have Yvonne, owner of the second sexiest name in the poll. She proves that aged and confused does not equal dowdy.

And the winner, by huge popular acclamation, is Emma, beloved by Slashdot geeks the world over. Emma was a late entrant into the race, she only began campaigning on Monday, but she still managed to amass over a third of the vote with 665 ballots going her way. I’m not sure about how the rules of dating your friend’s little sister work on the Internet, but even if Isaac said yes, she’s much too sexy for me.

That concludes the second annual Sexiest Female Blogger. If any other contestants would like to know their vote total, send me an email. Hope to see you next year!

SFB: 2003 update

Ok, I think that Emma now has an insurmountable lead. She’s up 603 to 225 for second place. Because of that, and because I’m suddenly going to be out of town tomorrow night, I’m going to call the contest at noon tomorrow. I’ll also be posting the results tomorrow before 2 PM mountain.

SFB: 2003 update

Almost to 1400 votes, and Emma is 28 votes ahead of Yvonne and has over twice the votes of the next competitor, Annika. But I have it on good authority that Gennie is working on a comeback all the way from nearly 200 votes back. I’m still hoping that Heather will start a campaign.

It could happen, she’s got plenty of time. Voting closes Thursday at midnight.

We’ve got a new leader

Well, Emma has claimed the yellow jersey with 105 votes to 103 for Yvonne. Nice.

Poll update

The voting has gotten really interesting with 917 votes counted. We’ve got Annika and Yvonne tied for the lead with 96 each, Nicole in third with 55, Emma at fourth with 51, and J-Mo rounding out the top five at 39. My own fave, Heather, is way, way back with 14. Hopefully she posts about it soon.

The big story right now is Emma. She’s come from way behind since her brother, of the much missed Laughing Boy, told her about the poll a couple hours ago. She had about ten votes then, but she’s quickly rocketing towards the top. He tells me she has tons of Slashdot readers, and they evidently vote.

Child Protective Services sicced on SFB contestant

Is this related to the SFB poll? Kate’s post doesn’t say that it is, but this guy thinks it is. If it is, that’s ridiculous, but I’m not that surprised. Some of the contestants got pretty nasty last year. Nothing beyond some catty comments, certainly nothing with real-world consequences like this…

Anyway, it’s disgusting, and whoever is responsible should be ashamed of themselves.

Weak criticism

So far I’ve been disappointed in the criticism this year’s poll has received. Last year it was much more numerous and vitriolic. All I’ve got right now is an approving accusation of navel gazing, a few (accurate) descriptions of the poll as a blatant, sell out grab for hits, and this angry diatribe about the “scrutinization of our physical appearance.”

This is the best one yet. Angry, over-the-top, and, oh, completely off base. How much of this contest is based on physical appearance? I’d say about twenty percent, based on the number of contestants that have posted pictures. My own vote was based entirely on my love of Heather Havrilesky’s writing (although she is a cutie, I didn’t know that before I voted for her last year). I hate this PC over reaction to anything that might be fun, but I want more of it.

Hate me, people, and hate my poll.

We’re off and running

Well, we’ve got the poll off the ground, and my stats are in the stratosphere. Currently Nicole of Go Fish has a solid lead with thirty votes out the two hundred and twenty cast. Only six hours of voting and we’ve already got a tenth of last year’s total.

Already August has seen more traffic than the last two months. I’m getting 99 hits an hour, with a max of 1659 at around one today. That’s almost half what I got last year right after getting an Instalink. Today alone we’ve had over 1600 visits and 4500 pageviews. That’s remarkable for a site that usually gets a sure and steady 220 visits a day.

Thanks for dropping by, and be sure to vote.

Permalink to poll

For some reason the poll destroys a bunch of HTML just underneath it, so it erased the permalink/comments section of the post. You can link to the poll right here.

Sexiest Female Blogger II: Vote!

Finally, here’s the poll everyone’s been waiting for. I’ve added a few new contestants after the nomination deadline. If you can’t break your own rules, why host a contest.

Oh, and go here and nominate me for Sexiest Male Blogger. I’ve got a couple of pictures here.
