Topic: Smoking Cessation

Oooh, I gotta remember…

…not to wear these patches for too long. I just wore one for about six hours too long, and it always leaves a tender rash. Plus, my nic levels get dangerously low.

This patch thing really works

Hey, it’s been forty-eight hours since my last smoke! And I only had three (maybe four?) that I bummed off people when I went out Friday night.

Tomorrow: a review of Hulk, and news of a new job?

Smoking update II

Well, I ended up going out last night, I went with every intention to not smoke. Didn’t take the cigarettes, didn’t take the lighter, slapped on a fresh patch before stepping out the door. But everyone there was smoking, and I’m used to smoking while drinking, so I ended up bumming three cigarettes. Still, three in a day is my personal best.

Haven’t had one today, and I’m staying in tonight, so at midnight I’ll have my first twenty-four hours smoke free.

Smoking update

Had three cigarettes yesterday, which was pretty impressive. I ran out at that point, but didn’t buy anymore for hours. Then late last night I started to crave a smoke (I was having a drink, which makes it hard) so I bought two packs. Then I went to sleep before I bothered to open them.

So today is the first day in months and months that I’ve had no cigarettes at all.

This patch makes it hard to sleep

Ok, maybe someone thinks that the twenty-four hour a day patch is a good idea, but I’m not used to being up this late. Jebus, will it not let me sleep?

Ok, maybe I shouldn’t smoke while using the patch, like it says on the package, but what the fuck?

I gotta quit

Smoking, that is. I’ve decided to go ahead and bite the bullet and quit since I don’t have a job to stress me out, and I could really use the money. I’ve tried to do it cold turkey before, and it never worked for more than a few days, usually a few hours. So today I bought a set of patches for the next two weeks.

Of course, that means I don’t save any money at all. It’s gonna continue to cost about fifteen bucks a week for at least eight or ten weeks. But after that, I’m free and clear.

Now if only I can pull it off. So far the main problem is that I like the actual physical activity of smoking. I think one of the reasons I really got hooked on smoking was that I’m naturally a very fidgety person, and having a cigarette gave me something to do with my hands. Maybe I’ll get a stress ball and start chewing toothpicks, other people have said that worked for them.
