Jim B(i)enemann?

There’s currently an ad running on Denver’s CBS4 that features news anchor Jim Benemann and his son, a high school football player. The son’s jersey clearly says “Bienemann,” yet the caption (and Jim’s official bio) says “Benemann.” My theory: Jim’s legal name has the silent i, but in his professional life he drops it to avoid mispronunciations.

Anyone know for sure?

  1. I can’t say for sure, but Bienemann has a bit of a german look to it, while Benemann is a much more “American-Looking” name. Perhaps that’s why?

  2. I must not pay enough attention. I always thought it was Bienemann.

    Freaky.

  3. Hell, I thought it was Molly Benemann and Jim Hughes.

I like Ryan’s theory, but I still think it probably has more to do with pronunciation. I’m sure Jim was sick of hearing Buy-nemann, Bee-nemann, and Bee-eh-nemann.

The “i” is in his given name. I went to high school with his brother. His uncle played end for the old Chicago Cardinals; you can find his card on eBay.
