Joel Moore in Slate
May 18th, 2004
Joel Moore, Man of National Commercials, mentioned on this site here and then here, has been profiled by Slate. The story has links to several of his ads and a good explanation of just how an actor gets this big by hawking DVDs and motor oil. My favorite part, though, is Joel slagging the medium that made him famous:
“I swear that ads don’t work,” he says. “I did a Best Buy spot, but people always come up to me on the street and say, ‘Hey, you’re the Circuit City guy’ or ‘Hey, you’re the Blockbuster guy.’ I guess if you’re paying attention to the actor, you’re not paying so much attention to the product.”

You really just posted so you wouldn’t have to feel guilty at the upcoming blogger bash, didn’t you?
Nope. The Blogger Bash guilt post won’t go up until the 28th.
During this post I felt ashamed that I didn’t follow up on the Joel Moore stuff earlier.
See, I thought the fact that people didn’t know which business he was advertising is because people are morons.
I grew up with Joel at the Wauna Lake Club in Washington, and I’m writing for everyone that knew him to say congratulations! It’s no surprise that he has become so successful, he always had the best sense of humor and always got us into the craziest situations as kids. Way to go, Joel!
I also grew up with joel and we even played on the same ymca basketball team here in portland OR
I’m glad to see his acting talents finally getting noticed. Congrats man =)
Joel is a dirty queer
I went to college with Joel and think he is a great actor. I wish him well with his career and thank him for being a great freind.
Please consider portraying “Gilligan”; there is no other actor that even comes close to the updated version of the character that Bob Denver had enbued on the original T.V. series. You seem to possess a certain carisma, that would keep you from being “Type-Cast”, as did with Denver. Hope to see you on the big screen soon!
I am yet another who grew up knowing Joel at Wauna Lake. It is a riot to see him on T.V. and I know my friends are tired to pointing to the boob tube in bars whenever I see something he has done. It is a reminder of the trouble I got into with him. I wish you luck Joel!
I met Joel on Bourbon street in June filming the movie Hatchet. I didn’t recognize him until someone mentioned him being in Dodgeball which was the 2nd day we hung out. He’s so fun and down-to-earth. Joel, great luck with everything. I had a blast thanks to you and your LA peep.Call me if you come back to New Orleans, man.
Apparently there was a post that said I thought Joel was “a dirty queer”. Two things I know about this. 1 I was performing on a cruise ship during the date that was posted and not available on internet. 2..if you know Joel…that post is absolutely liabel!!!!! Please clear my name.
