Rush is right… gone
Well, the big firestorm today is over Rush’s resignation from the ESPN pre-game NFL show. Off Wing Opinion has a good rundown of stories here. Beth says she likes Rush and will miss him. I too like Rush, he does good, if obvious, opinion radio. But I hated him on ESPN.
First, he doesn’t know football. McNabb is not that overrated, and I don’t think he’s revered because he’s black but because he has such amazing physical skills. Second, he was routinely out argued by Michael Irvin. Can you imagine losing a debate to Michael Irvin? But most importantly, he was just a gimmick, and he was the most gimmicky of gimmicks. Throwing a red flag for his “challenges?” That’s stupid.
I hate all stupid gimmicks. Hiring a comedian to do commentary on your pre-game show, putting a babe on the sidelines who knows nothing about football or reporting, and the visually appealing (even exciting! That chick is hot) weather girl gimmick. Skip all those tricks and just show more of the cheerleaders, which is at least a time honored, venerable gimmick.
So I bid a fond farewell to Rush. Oh, and good luck, buddy, with the drug allegations.
