BitTorrent rocks
Have ya’ll used BitTorrent yet? It rocks hard. Most P2P apps get you about 20kB/s, tops, but I’m currently downloading a new OS that shall remain nameless at 60 to 100kB/s. I’m gonna get all three CDs in under three hours. One cool thing about it is your download speed is entirely dependent on your upload speed. While you’re downloading one piece from another client he might be getting another from you, and if he’s downloading from you quickly then he lets you get multiple pieces at one time.
Only problem with it I can find is the inability to search the network easily. I’ve been searching LimeWire and Google for the .torrent files to initiate downloads for apps I want.
Also, if you’re gonna use it, make sure you open your firewall up for ports 6881 through 6889 and NAT those ports to the correct machine. This will allow other users to connect directly to you, quadrupling (in my case, at least) your download speeds. I went from being connected to twenty other sites (which is pretty good for P2P) to over a hundred connections (which is fucking amazing).

Wow… I didn’t even think about using BitTorrent for this kind of thing… I’m so stupid! I’m totally gonna start doing this too.
I wouldn’t have thought of it except I downloaded a file named “How to download … quickly” from LimeWire and it contained the three BitTorrent files. I didn’t even know there was a Mac version.
Bittorrent is nice when you can find people still hosting the files they downloaded. The problem is that most people don’t. I suppose you will get excellent download rates on popular new files, and that’s about it.
I use http://www.suprnova.tk/ to help find bittorrent files.
can someone please explain how i can open up these firewalls and ports or whatever.. because i got cable but downloading with bittorrent still is slow
What kind of firewall are you running? And how slow is slow?
what do you mean what kind of firewall?
slow is like 10kb per sec
how can i find out what type of firewall im running?
Yea… my dad pays for standard cable connection through comcast, my speeds on utorrent are anywhere between .6-1.2 mbps, and with bittorrent you can find ANYTHING digital, software, video, music, game, ect. It makes warez avaiable to the general public, and your much less likely to get a virus than from frost/limewire.
