Oversight. Fuck you.

Oversight is fine, but we all know that this money will be approved. Jesus, we already won the battle, the Democrats know that we can't walk away from the rebuilding. In fact, I guarantee that if they fail to approve the full ammount they'll blame the failure on Bush. Congress knew this would cost money when they approved taking action against Iraq.

Since it will be approved, then complaining about it (Michael Kinsley: Bush should say he's sorry) is whining, pure and simple.

I'm drunk now, so I'm gonna say it: Fuck school policy. Those squares couldn't get off in a Mexican whorehouse.

There, I said it.

Absolutely, I think the teacher was right in showing the footage. In fact, I had a long conversation with a teacher about just what she was going to be doing that day. It's not something that should be glossed over by any means.

No...not sarcasm...totally serious. Good thing the parents had enough sense to know what their children should be taught and rallied for the guy.

Yes, I suppose the teacher should have followed school policy... but I agree with what he showed those students.

On 9/11/01 I was glued to my TV for 4 days. I was constantly calling my son to come and see what was going on. He wasn't very interested, even though teachers at his school were talking (a bit) about events. For this year's anniversary, I tried to engage him in conversation, tried to show him some pictures he might not have seen or the familiar ones we'd all seen. Again, not much interest. I have no idea why.

When I was 14, my son's age, a reputed local author blew his brains out on the grounds of my high school. I was horrified and all my friends were, too. Afterward, we all made a point of looking up that writer, with whom we hadn't been familiar until that day.

Why is my son so complacent about world events -- then and now? Dunno.

So, I say, teachers who try to remind kids of the terrible events of 9/11 should be commended.

Whining about $87B? Get over yourself, Hannity. Asking for a legitimate accounting of dollars spent and what's planned for the money, together with a refusal to offer the executive branch a blank check, is part of Congress's responsibilites. Perhaps you've never heard of oversight--a mandated requirement for Congress in Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution, if memory serves--or the General Accounting Office, but to fail to ask about where the money's going would be a gross abrogation of Congressional responsibility.

But hell, Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld/Wolfowitz/Feith have been so honest with us throughout this episode, we should probably just let em have whatever they want.

I didn't realize that was the policy. So I agree with you, he should have asked. If they said no, then raise a stink.

You know I agree with you--except for one thing. He should have followed district policy and had the film cleared before showing it to the kids. There is no doubt in my mind that it's right to have a conversation like that with these kids--in fact, it is quite likely to be the single most important event in any of their lives when you consider the way that it has effected the entire world.

He should have followed policy, though.
