Misleading preview

I just saw a preview for a new movie that opened with the line, “Jack Smith’s new documentary is about his new house…” over grainy clips of home movies of a creepy looking old house, especially focusing on people opening doors. Are you thinking the same thing I am? They’re finally making a movie of House of Leaves!

Of course, I was wrong. It’s a different creepy house and a different documentary maker, and those doors don’t lead to impossibly long hallways to nowhere. Frankly, I think House of Leaves will be impossible to script and film, it’s just too strange and intricate. Too bad, it was one of the creepiest and coolest books I’ve ever read. I had trouble sleeping when I was reading it because I couldn’t stop, and I had trouble sleeping afterwards because I was so freaked out.

Too bad we’ll never see it on the big screen. I’d vote for David Fincher to direct if it ever does get to Hollywood, I think he’s the only director that could do it justice.

  1. Because I love all things creepy, I hit the link to House of Leaves but got an error 404 message.

We watched House of 1000 Corpses last night. It strikes the right balance between “stereotypical slasher film” and downright weird. Seen it?

  2. Holy crap, someone has actually SEEN House of 1000 Corpses? I got the impression from the ads that it was just an ego wank for Rob Zombie – good to hear that I might be wrong.

  3. Yea, those 404 things happen when you type in a href=”a href=” for a link.

I’ve never even heard of House of 1000 Corpses, but if it’s got Rob Zombie involved it must suck. I’m judging entirely by the output of his crappy band.
