Bubba Ho-Tep

This may be the craziest movie that just might work since Being John Malkovich. Elvis and JFK (who’s somehow black? Did his brain get transplanted or something?) are in a rest home and must battle an ancient mummy that sucks the life out of other residents. Bizarre, especially the scene of the two going down the hallway, evidently expecting some action, but Elvis is using a walker and JFK is in an electric wheelchair.

Oh, and if all that wasn’t cool enough, Bruce Campbell (of Army of Darkness fame) plays the bloated Elvis. Fucking incredible.

If it’s anything like the Joe Lansdale story it’s based on, it should be great.

  2. I’m guessing the story is a comic book, err, graphic novel?

  3. Reading in the site, it seems the old black guy only thinks he is JFK. Believable, when one considers that my grandmother once thought Lawrence Olivier stopped by one afternoon, even though he’d been dead for a couple of years. I wonder how she got the smell out of the house.

  4. When Ossie Davis (JFK) says he was dyed black by the government I cried laughing.

This should be a good flick.

  5. So do ya think that if JFK isn’t really JFK that the Elvis character is really just an impersonater? That would be disappointing, but the idea of the film leaving hints but never quite saying is attractive.

No, it’s a short story. Novella, I think. Can’t remember which collection it’s in, but they’re putting out a hardcover with the story and a bunch of behind-the-scenes stuff from the movie.

P.S. To quote Cube: “I CAN read, bitch!”

  8. Hey, no offense meant. It just sounded like a good concept for a comic if there ever was one.
