BTW - I am getting around to reading as well. Let's just say work = sux at the moment (and yes, I know you don't have the work part at the moment, but bear with me).

And hell yes, I'm drinking as well.

I was figuring that versatility was his strong suit from the range on the stories in Hyperion. I'll definitely buy them, next thing I do when I have money, after dropping a twenty in your tip jar.

And now, just to get an idea of his versatility, you should check out his crime novels, Hard Case and Hard Freeze. Just fucking ruthless.

Hey, neat, someone else to reading Simmons! And me!

I'll check out that book you recommend. Luckily, with the Amazon reseller system, out-of-print books are no longer very hard to get a hold of.

Thanks for drinking with me, Zen buddy. Now get down to Denver this Friday and drink with me for real!

Glad to hear the interview went well, or at least well enough to make ya thirsty.

I just finished rereading the Hyperion saga for the umpteenth time a week ago. One of my favorite far future science fiction works ever. I have to disagree with you, though. I enjoyed Fall of Hyperion, if only for the Keats story and the end of the Hegemony. Wasn't too big into Rise of Endymion, though the ending is phenomenal. No, I won't ruin it. :)

If you can find it, an earlier work by Simmons called "Phases of Gravity" is really very good. It's not science fiction, more a classical fiction story of an astronaut contemplating life after walking on the moon. Very sad. It's now out of print, which is also very sad, but it's a worthwhile tome if you can acquire it.

Well, at least you know someone's reading, and even drinking with you, in a long distance Zen kinda way.
